Hungry for Wisconsin

The new “Hungry for Wisconsin: A Tasty Guide for Travelers” celebrates the people, places and foods that define our part of the world. Judged best travel book in annual writing competitions of both the Midwest Travel Writers Association and the Society of American Travel Writers (Central States Chapter).

"This book stands out for me as much for what it is as what it is not," says Megan Waitkoff, MTWA contest judge and former editor of the Chicago-area Lake Magazine.

"First, what it is: an engaging, exciting collection of off-the-beaten-path restaurants, each with their own history and quirks etc. In the midst of an ongoing rebirth in dining culture, especially with a focus on supporting local producers and restaurants, this book is spot on.

"What Hungry for Wisconsin is not is pretentious, and it's the better for it. Cookbooks and dining essays line the bookshelves these days, and the majority of them tout obscure dishes from five-star restaurants that most readers can't even make a reservation at."

Look for “Hungry” in bookstores, and read more about our efforts here, in Doug Moe's Wisconsin State Journal column. Also check out this blog, written by Madison Magazine editor Brennan Nardi.

In the pages of “Hungry” are burger flippers and entrée artists, glimpses of dirt-in-the-nails farm life and coat-and-tie ambiance. What everybody has in common is integrity of product.
